For the past twenty plus years my family has spent Thanksgiving Eve celebrating my great great grandparents by gathering together to mix up the family buttermilk cake doughnut recipe. My grandparents owned and operated a bakery and candy shop in Oklahoma.
My family mixes the ingredients into the doughnut dough, rolls the dough, presses the shapes, fires up the fryer where we fry the doughnuts to a golden brown, followed by the colorful icing and decorating takes over. Sprinkles roll off the table and taste testing for quality control ensues. A very warm and wonderful night.
The next morning our Thanksgiving breakfast table includes these treasured doughnuts rewarmed in the oven served with hot coffee and cold milk.
We have so much fun every year making and laughing around the table. I am happy to continue to share this family tradition with our family each year.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday and a season filled with sharing family traditions.
