STUDIO & GALLERY
Art Studios and Commissions
Two large studios areas are my maker spaces which can be reconfigured and include creative spaces for multimedia and functions. These two studios, one with northern light exposure and the other with eastern morning light are the work horses where my mixed media art supplies and boxes of my reference materials rule the day. Most days the pigmented wax is warm, and I am painting listening to music, audio books and podcasts. Some paintings seem to start on their own, others are a long time in their development.
I have been painting with mixed media for well over 30 years. Beginning with cutting and layering beautiful German glass while living four years in Germany, then moving on to painting with oils, acrylics, and watercolors while attending the Museum School of the Arts in Boston.
After a move to Maryland, I was asked to teach children the basics of painting in afterschool Montgomery County programs. Then following a relocation to Denver, I spent several years studying for my MFA at the University of Denver concentrating in sculpture and painting and working as a teaching assistant.
After graduate school, I was invited to teach at University of Denver, CU Denver and Arapahoe Community College. Later I taught at Regis University in Denver teaching sculpture and the Art Students League of Denver teaching mixed media sculpture and developed the encaustic painting program.
No matter where I am I can set up a working studio. I have attached photos taken during several of my artist fellowships and residencies. Now having over a dozen under my belt, I intentionally integrate my environment and what is available there to use in my work. This practice has become critical in really seeing the place, experiencing the culture, and understanding the innovative artists I have met.
COMMISSIONS
I accept commissions and work directly with clients throughout the process. We meet either at the gallery or client's residence/office depending on the final placement of the work we are discussing. I use photographs, color samples, textile materials, and take measurements to begin my process of working up a sketch.
We then meet a second time to review sketches, colors, etc. and determine if the work is going in the right direction. I ask for a 60% deposit at this time and purchase job materials and paints. When the work is about 3/4 complete, we meet a third time to discuss possible edits and ideas on framing. Framing, shipping, tax, and art installation are separate line items from the commission. Final payment is due upon acceptance of the work.
I have completed a number of private commissions for clients residing in Paris, France, Newport Beach, CA, Lake Tahoe, CA, Paradise Valley, AZ, Chicago, IL and Denver, CO.
